I recenlty purchased a 150-gallon Rubbermaid horse trough that I am planning on converting into a large saltwater tank. After purchasing the tank, I discovered that the local animal shelter I work for has one that is designed better (it's a lot rounder and shallower) that we use when we occasionally get gators dropped off. The shelter is willing to trade with me but we are wondering the best way to disinfect and sanitized the old tank (that I can only guess how many different cleaning solutions have been used on) so that I can put saltwater in it. Any recommendations - will bleach do the trick?

Thanks!

Good trade...

Light bleach solution, scrub down everything atleast twice, including the bottom. Rinse fairly well, then use a dishwashing soap (ajax, palmalive, Dove etc.) scrub everything very well (this will release the rest of the bleach)... Now tip it on its side (fun part) so all water runs right out and rinse incredibly well (so water spray doesn't foam and at the last so you can't taste the soap (if it's gonna be good enogh for your fish). Then take just enough beer to get rid of 2 hrs worth of pain, sit back and watch it dry. :D

 Tell ya what there 'G/G'. You get to that hose & bleach & soap & water stuff & I'll handle that ole worrisome BEER thing!! It needs a delicate touch & it's often very, very time consuming so I got that!! ;) :) ;) :) :naughty: :grinno:  "T"
