Plastic tote for grow out tank?

Has anyone used a plastic tote as a grow out tank? I am in need of a bigger tank at the moment and I saw that I could get a 55 gallon tote at the Home Depot for about $20. Of course I wouldn’t be able to see the fish, but I thought it might be a cost effective solution.

I've kept goldfish temporarily in clear plastic bins, but you might want to get a clamp or 2x4 to brace the center with. The plastic isn't very thick, so it will bow when filled with water.

Personally would suggest Rubbermaid Brand Totes. I'm using one as a sump it's been used about 14 yrs.

I also use a 55 gallon drum for my pond filter, you could possibly use one of those as a grow out, but I'm not sure if there would be enough horizontal swimming space.

I`m with tlindsey on this one. For a few dollars more you can get something that will hold up to the weight of the water. Check out the totes and stock tanks at Tractor Supply before deciding what to get. I got a 110 gallon stock tank and love it. Lots of videos on Youtube too.
