Platy/sword cross

Hi all,

I heard on the grapevine that platys and swordtails can be crossbred.

I was wondering if A) This is true, and B) if it is, is it likely to happen if i just put some virgin platy females in with some male sword tails?

yep its true you can try but ive never tried to breed 2 different fishy breeds

Swords are inherited by males only. They can indeed crossbreed however the resulting fry may become unusually more aggressive than the typical platy as swordtails tend to be a little more aggressive than platies and they are also smaller than the typical swordtails. All members of the Xiphophorus genus can crossbreed with each other.
