I was reading a book on turtles and came across this guy. The Big-headed Turtle is its common name. Does anyone have experience keeping these guys? Are they widely available? Any info would be great.

Well, Like 10 years ago they were very available but not so much today unless captive bred. These turtles are a popular food in china and other south east asian countries. This turtle isnt easy to keep either. He looks like our snapping turtles but is quite different then ours. The big head lives in rivers comming off the mountians. This water is cold and clean thus their water needs be well airated and clean. Same conditions as maps or soft shells. One thats captive bred may cost a lot.

I read about the fact that they live in cooler water with more current. I liked the "snapper-like" appearance, I have a Common Snapping Turtle. I will have to keep my eyes open, it sounds like they are few and far between.
