I have an extra 5x2x2 reptile tank that has 5mm glass
I was thinking of making it into a plaudarium inspired by the 1700g ray river tank on here except tiny compared to it
the water part would be 50 or so gallons and be a nice community tank
not sure on the land animal

now my question is will the glass be thick enough the land portion will be divided by some plexi siliconed in and the water would only be a foot deep

Im going to have a water fall powered by a xp2
 
ah well false bottoms are good for the soil make it easier to design less hassle let you hide pumps ect

what kind of plants if any ? soil mix are you going for ?
 
good layer of gravel some screening and topsoil maybe some vermiculite
planting, broms, pothos, crotons, moss, creeping fig, whatever tropical will work and I can get basically, no nurseries here just home depot and walmart
for the water Ill do some duckweed, hyacinth, lillies
 
sounds nice but id be carful with gravel its really heavy and with soil has a bad habit of wicking water. plus make sure you silicon the plexi good as the devider method creates alot of pressure avoided in the false bottom

and do you think the glass thickness is ok?
 
5mm seems a little thin for a 5 foot span but if you keep the water depth under 12" you should be ok. A 40g breeder tank is 13" tall and is built from 1/4" glass (6mm), but the front panel is admittedly only 36" long. On my paludarium build I'm using 1/2" (12mm) glass for the 5' front viewing panel (water height will be around 15"), but it isn't going to have any additional bracing so I wanted to play it safe.

the front viewing will be 4ft and the back 2.5ft how would I find volume for that?
 
well front 4 and back 2.5 ft... break it down in to 3 basic shapes. 2.5x2 rectangle. and a 2ftx.75ft rectangle. so you have about 44 gal at a foot deep
