I know play sand is significantly cleaner for set up, but how does it compare to pool filter sand for maintenance. I am upgrading my 20g planted to a 36 bow front and want to do sa d but the pfs in my 125 is really light in color and I feel that play sand will look better in a planted tank.

^ don't listen to crazy sand is great

With the proper amount of current you won't need to vac anything

Just make sure you don't make the sand bed too thick and you will be fine

Carib sea has a great line of products if you don't mind spending some cash

If your tank is not very tall, you would need to put something under the filter flow because the flow will push the sand away.

How thick is too thick?

Anything 2" or over will require a weekly stir to make sure no gas is trapped inside the substrate...
