I have just bought some play sand for my eartheater tank i have just started setting up, my question is this sand looks very very fine will it be ok with 2 eheim 2217s i will need to cut the intake so they are 3-4 inches above the sand? Also the sand looks like a beige colour in the package but it is sold as a white my tank is way to cloudy to see what colour it is under water.

Tank is 55 gallon i was thinking of putting my 2 fully grown satanoperca leucosta and buying 2 more smaller ones to add with them and a small school of tetras of some sort and some corys, over stocked or ok?

There's a reason why people buy pool filter sand instead of play sand. I'd get pool filter sand.

Play sand is fine. I couldn't find pool filter and and I used play sand without any problems. You should be fine. Is it already in the tank? I would do a bunch of water changes to get the cloudiness to go away. I also used a product called bio magnet clarifier and it made my tank Crystal clear in an hour after I put the sand in.

i use play sand and have done with great results, aslong as you clean it really well you shouldnt have any trouble, just make sure that your intake on your eheim is a good few inches of the bottom.

Took my play sand out and replaced it with pool filter sand, much cleaner and looks good too. I cut my eheim siphon about 3 inches just filled the tank and have to wait for the temperature to get to 78. I have a eheim 2217 running but no media inside for circulation. I will be puting another eheim 2217 on tomorrow full of eheim media and established bacteria colony. would 1 eheim 2217 be enough for an 48 x 18x 18 (55 gallon) i will have 4 green horse faces some corydoras small school of tetras and 2 bristlenoses.

I could keep the empty eheim running if needed maybe put seachem stuff in it or just wool for michanical filtration.

I used play sand in my piranha tank years ago.. it took a TON of washes to clean it and it still kill an AC filter I had:). Hope it works out for you!

The pool filter sand came up very nice, very clean and looks great, i have also added a piece of red mangrove today i will buy a black background the temperature is 80f i will add my 2 satanoperca leucosta today or tomorrow and later add 2 more plus some rummy nose tetras or maybe just neons and a few bristlenoses.
