I just set this tank up, I moved the filter pad from the old HOB filter that was on the 10G tank, I also used the BioBalls that had been in the sump of my 55 gallon for 2 weeks, and lastly used the sponge filter that had been sitting in the bottom of the sump for months. So I set the tank up and it had .50 ppm of ammonia, so i faithfully every day at 12:00 noon add 1 cap full of prime. This tank has been setup for 3 days now at the same time I set the tank up I add a new fish. Well this fish died in front of me today and had a white cotton on his body; after removing him is saw the following.

Strange cotton like stuff growing on the back of my biocube on the black plastic. One patch looks like cotton the rest is a clear circle patch with small white stringy things growing out of the center of the clear circle. So now I am scared, that my other fish might get sick and I don't know what to do. If they are infected I don't want to take them out of this tank and put them on my 55 gallon. However if they are not infected and the tank is infected I want to move them. I am also terrified of treating the tank with medicine as I lost a whole tank doing this when the meds killed my BB. This tank is in a mini cycle as its using 100% pre cycled media, but the water had a little bit of ammonia in it, but like I said I have never missed a dose of prime. on cap treats 50 gallons and I use 1 cap on 29 gallons with only .50 ammonia.

Also I my girlfriend used my net for the 55 gallon in this tank the other day, I noticed and explained how bad that is. I don't think this net has been used in the 55 since then, what can I dip this net in to make sure I am safe

It may be a good idea to raise the temp up alittle to like 78-82 and add some salt. Around 1TBS for every 5 gallons of water. The fish probably died from stress from the move and being in a new home with new water params. But just incase the salt should take care of a fungus that might be there. Salt is also good to use when cycling with fish cause it supposedly lower the chance of nitrite poisoning and also helps the slime coat that may be damaged from a move or stress.

Salt and thats it?
