hey guys :)

i am planning on giving a shot at breeding arowanas and was wondering how feasible this is. I have spoken to a few LFS and have agreed that i can sell babies to them. I am planning on keeping 3 pairs of silvers. What would be the best way to do this. Should i get a huge tank built to house them all or should i go for a few smaller ones. How huge should this tank be and any other advice would be great. At the moment i am keeping my fish (cichlids and oddballs) in a 240 gallon.

Others may have better suggestions, but the most inexpensive way to set them up would probably be several indoor ponds. You would have to look really close at something you can cover the ponds with though, as you are likely to have a jumper occasionally. You could probably set up some tanks for fry grow out, but the ponds will take care of any space needs if you don't mind not displaying them. Do you already have the silvers? You might want to try for say a pair of silvers, a pair of blacks, and maybe another oddball pair...from a supply and demand perspective.

no i dont have the fish yet. I live in south africa, cape town and there are only 3 to 5 aro breeders in the area. Finding the fish would be the hardest part. How much water should these tanks or ponds hold?

Go for the largest available space. I have seen some ponds from Philippines and they are really huge.

Try posting this in the Ancient fish thread, there lays the aro fish keepers.

your going to need multiple ponds for this. and figuring out from male and female and if they are mature enough to start breeding will probably be the hardest part.
