they r male and female though? he is very aggressive towards her and i want tobreed them. what r best conditions for breeding

thanks for the help i was hopin they were the cross breed. the fish store that told me they were the hybrid was on 92 in daytona. thats were i bought the female to go with the male i bought prior from somewhere else as a drop off. is there a trick to get them to breed or just let them do their thing? whats the average size they get to? im new to the fish hobby but i m hooked have these two in 55g and am gettin two new tanks soon. anybody else in daytona area?

I know what store you're talking about. It's Daytona Aquarium. I go there every few months. A couple of my friends purchased Dovii x RTM from them nearly a year ago. Their fish grew much larger than a RTM. I'm not sure if you have a hybrid or not though. Out of all the cichlids that Daytona Aquarium has to offer, I have never purchased a hybrid.

do you happen to have any photos of those hybrid fish? and thank you for the info. i described the male i had and he said it sounded like one of his that somebody dropped off at the other store i got him. he has alot of blue on his back above the latteral line and very orange cheeks. the female also has alot of orange in her face when she is not being beat up.

The Yellow one looks like a Freddy...the other could be a hybrid, or maybe a La Cieba Freddy...thats why I dont like La Ciebas IMO are an actual naturally occuring HYBRID.

I deleted a lot of fish pictures from my computer recently. I'm not sure if I have pics of the Dovii x RTM anymore. I'll look and see. BTW you will need a larger tank for the pair especially if they turn out to be hybrids. One of my friend's who purchased a pair of Dovii x RTM from DA ended up with a male over a foot long and a 10" female before he sold them. They bred a lot but the eggs were never fertile for some reason. They were both very aggressive during breeding and the female would often have to hide from the male. You need a tank large enough to give them both room to move and one that will provide a place for the smaller female to hide. A 55 gallon is just too small to provide either. If your fish turn out to be Freddies they won't grow as large as a Dovii but I'm sure they will still need a larger tank. It may ease some of the aggression that you are experiencing too.
