I posted about this the other day, and things seem to be getting worse. My tank was super cloudy, now it's turning green. The perimeters are Ok except a ammonia level of .2 that I'am treating chemically. Any thoughts? Should I do a water change? If so Alot or Little? Tank is 180G with a 40g sump and fx5. 3 monos 3-5". 1 emporer at 5 " XXL pleco.

ok first thing is stop yousing cems. do one big water change with lots of smaller ones. untill everything is in the right peramiters. thats the best advice i can give ya

Sorry to say, but a 0.2 reading of ammonia is not ok on an established tank !

Stop all the chemicals, and do a proper water analysis.

To have an ammonia shows you have something wrong thats not right. With the cloudy water you described and positive ammonia reading, you may have some how shocked the bb in your bio filtration.

I would do a 50% water change and if possible use only single a water coditioner like seachem prime that detoxifies ammonia into ammonium and feeds the bb without stressing the fish.

Yes, thats the only chemical I have used was an ammonia detoxifier. I did a Lg. water change last nite, it's still real cloudy, but not green. Ammonia level appears to be dropping.

Keep doing water changes. Can't do too many IMO. Wy do you have ammonia n algea bloom? Overdrawing? Too much light? Is the tank in direct sunlight? Sounds like your tank is newly setup, or you went nuts feeding n need to clean it out, any pics?

The tank has been running for 2 years. My sump looked dirty so I drained it and thats when things went bad. Not a good Idea. I also have an FX5 on it. I will try and post a photo in a bit.

Use a Turbo Twist 6X 18 watt UV Sterilizer. That is what I use on my 180. Anyway it will kill an algae bloom in 2-3 days. You also need a pump with a lower flow rate. I believe mine is only 180 gph or so. Do a 50% water change too. You cleaned your sump out a little too much and killed off too many beneficial bacteria from what it sounds like to me as well. Good luck!
