My puffer is on the verge of death. I moved his tank to another room and added my ph buffer in the new water. What I failed to realize is that Seachem marine buffer is not a buffer at all, his old water was apparently 7.8, the buffer only worked for about a week since the last water change. The PH dropped. When I added the new water the PH was 8.4, hmm... buffer says 8.3 but whatever. My puffer is now breathing very very heavy and has rolled upside down 3 times now. Anyone know what I can do? I tried adding water with a ph of 7.0 but I dont want to shock him more. Any ideas anyone??????????

If he does die tonight, here he is. This fish means more to me than all of my other fish together. We have been together for almost 3 years.

Sorry to be pushy but I am very very worried about this, has anyone had this issue and figured a way to fix it, he is now on his side breathing rapidly.

I hope he pulls through for you.
For the most part I advocate not using anything to mess with your ph.Getting your fish acclimated to your local water is less likely to kill them than the wild ph swings of a single mistake.

try a hospital tank or tupperware tub put your puffer in with water from his existing tank add aeration from a pump and stone and slowly add fresh water over 24hrs till the ph is back to norm also keep the container darkened to reduce stress ,if this helps keep him there till his main tank is back to normal ...

i hope this helps..

Thank you very much, I will try the earation, it is brackish water and and the ph is supposed to be 8.2 but the buffer didnt stay buffered. I have him in a bucket now with a ph at about 8.0, i am afraid tyo lower it anymore because I dont want to shock him again. Thank you for the advice.

I agree. Dark and get some added air on there.

Any time you have to add something to 'buffer' pH, most likely you'll have to keep adding it instead of a one time shot. Some systems I've seen will drop pH quickly if they have a large enough bio-load, and take more and more of the buffering agent to maintain the constant level.
