I just got some juvi cichla and recently noticed that one of them has an "abnormally" short lower jaw. The other ones all have normal longer lower jaws. Is this common? Also, what can/should I do?

Birth defect. Not normal at all. Cool looking? YES.

Definitely not common, but as long as he is eating, he should be OK.

what sp. Is that? Has a lot of blue on the 2nd pic

I think the blue is from the lighting. Its supposed to be an occel though. Also, thanks for the input. I'll keep a look out if he doesn't eat as much as he should be.

Hybrid ocell...

guys guys guys.. lol you can not determine him being a farmie or a hybrid at that size. only a estimate.

my guess is mono or ocel at that size its not garunteed farmie or hybrid unless told to by seller and the seller must know his fish =P

IMO,the fact he has that kind of deformity means hes very likely captive bred...like most cichla available in lfs...

farmie would be a farm bred cichla.
theres pure strains of farm bred cichla, but many are a mix of mono and ocell...
