20131013_143714_4_bestshot.jpgMy lfs sold this as a red panamemse. Not sure about that. The internet says they are slow growers and this guy eats well and is growing just as fast or faster than my other cichlids. He is almost three inches now. Do you think he will get any color?

The male above is almost a ft long in the pic, it had to be given its own tank, was very aggressive with any cichlids close to its own size or larger, especially ones its shape or color in a tank as small as 150 gals.

I have also expeirienced the same aggression issues with large Males of these . I had one about 8 inches that I have to sale it was picking on my much larger Bocourti and Pearsi. I currently have a small pair of these in with a group of mature nics and so far so good but the little male did decide it did not like one of my REd Hook silver dollard and beat it to death to the point I have to move the SDs from the tank. I am sure I will have to move these guys from the nics when they get a little bigger. They are very beautiful and graceful however.

I find with argentea, any other silver fish seems to be a target, and any larger fish is taken as a threat and promptly dispatched.
Might be fine in a 300 gal or larger, but smaller tanks, I doubt it.
I believe they come from areas with, and prefer strong current, which may help temper aggression a bit.

Females have been quite passive for me, males have been much more aggressive. I've had two adult males and two adult females.
