Please help identify my new cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks. Never had one.

Was labeled red tiger.

Is this a Male or Female Mayan? Does anyone feel sure about the sex from the pictures?

Thanks again!!!

The females usually sport a black blotch in the dorsal.
Below a couple videos of uropthalmus in their natal habitat un the Yucatan, Mexico.
Colors can vary widely according to substate You can see the females, with black blotches.
Azul imovie edit
In the video below, with very light color substrate they are lighter in color.

Kevin, I'm looking for an expert opinion.
Does the fish below, look like Darienheros calobrensis?

Found it half dead in the Mamoni river the other day, about 1 1/2 hours north of Panama City.

For sure. definitely in the right area and it looks correct.
now... find me some live ones ;) lol
Thanx for the info
First time I'd seen one in the flesh.
Getting some live ones has been my goal.
That was the first one I'd seen in 5 months of on/off collecting.
In fact, it was the only other cichlid species I've seen, other than Andinoacara, and feral Tilapines that are everywhere.
