Hi MFK,
I bought a 180g tank from someone from here and found some frys under the mud/gravel. They were about 1/4 " and now they grew to 4-5" but I still don't know what they are. Does anyone recognize these ?
Thanks 20160104_214506.jpg 20160104_214506.jpg 20160104_214332.jpg 20160104_214506.jpg 20160104_214332.jpg 20160103_225903.jpg 20160103_225946.jpg 20160104_214430.jpg 20160104_214458.jpg 20160103_225905.jpg 20160103_225946.jpg 20160104_214506.jpg 20160104_214506.jpg 20160104_214332.jpg 20160103_225903.jpg 20160103_225946.jpg 20160104_214430.jpg 20160104_214458.jpg 20160103_225905.jpg 20160103_225946.jpg

Search up the Amphilophus genus, could be some sort of hybrid

Also was there water in the tank? That's crazy you found live and healthy fry

I also agree they look to be some type of Amphilophus.
And back in Sept when I recently moved, I had removed @ 99.9% of all water from a number of tanks, and found fry in small puddles left in the tanks, couldn't have been more than an eighth of an inch deep.

That's awesome free fish lol looks like amph species but message the guy you bought it from and ask him what he bred before. This don't look pure probably a hybrid.

Those stripes remind me of vieja species

There was haft of an inch of muddy at the bottom of the tank. I guess he hasn't clean it for 15 years lol.
Lost the contact since he's moving out of state.
But thank you so much for the info guys! At least now I can start to look somewhere!

Look to be midevil, odd they haven't peeled yet tho? Haven't come across barred midevil myself... Possibly true barred midas, amarillo, hoga or chancho but who knows, can't call em something they aren't confirmed to be..
Of course they may still peel as they grow but it's unusual, usually happens between 2 and 3 inch ime.

Either way they lucked out!-) look to be very healthy and well looked after, great job and credit to you for keeping them pal, are they in the same tank they came in?

No, they are in 120g and dominate the whole tank haha.
When I got the tank, I left it in the back yard for one week because it too big to clean and didn't have time. But I did hosing the inner walls. After a week I noticed some quick movement at the bottom tank as I approached but still didn't see anything. Until I scooped most of the mud out and found these guys :)
