One of my buddies just started up his first tank and got 2 africans from one of his friends. Neither of them know what it is and I was seeing if anyone could help him out?? Its not the clearest pic but I believe it gets the point across. I think it may be a Mbuna of some sort but I know there are plenty of fish lovers on here who will know by first look.

Lab. Caeruleus-yellow lab and possibly some other lab species mix? Perlmutt?

Definitely not a Socolofi. Socolofi do not have horizontal barring.
 
I have kept them. They can show barring when stressed. As will Careleous & other non barred fish.
