Please help identify

I started a 10 gallon nano reef tank about 3 months ago. 1, clown, 1 green emerald crab, pumping xenia, Green button polyp, and some live rock. I added another piece of rock last week and Monday I discovered a couple of hitch hikers. I'm new to salt water so a little ID help would be greatly appreciated.

Feather duster , maybe some kind of anemone. It does retract quicky when touched.

Thanks for the quick response. Look like I'll be picking up a few Peppermint shrimp tomorrow. Will they bother the polyps or the xenia?
 
Im not sure that is aiptasia... it has the wrong characteristics, though thats not saying that its not a pest anemone as it very well could be but I dont thing its apista. I'll have a quick look at my resources.

edit, after a quick look it is most likely apista haha, I'm just not used to seeing them hanging so they apear a bit different.
 
I am with ya kevin. It is a bit unusual looking for aiptasia, but its sudden appereance and that fact that it retracts so quickly make sme believe that it is aiptasia. There are several different ways to get rid of it, but I have two peppermint shrimp running about, and they cleaned my tank of it.

However, they are hit or miss on whether they will eat it, some will and some wont, and very quick and precise stab with hot water will toast em. I wanted to go that route instead the shrimp, but none of the pharmacys would sell me a syringe without a perscription that called for a syringe... apparantly I could be a druggie..lulz.

Really? weird they pretty much give them away to druggies here to prevent them from using dirty needles (in BC there is actualy "safe" clinics where drug users can go to get the clean equiptment they need for their habits, this is all to reduce strain on the heathcare system).

Anyways, you could always go to a farm supply store if there are any near by as they usualy carry the required equiptment to do that stuff (veteranarian supplies and the like), though you could probably do it with a turkey basting needle.

Yea but you Canadians do things a little bit different around here. When it comes to medical, its all about liability, haha. Maybe its just my area too, I dont know.

But at this point it doesnt matter, my peppermint shrimp cleaned the tank up, and I havent seen any aiptasia for about a month now.
