well i am looking to get a uv sterilizer and had a few questions that were not answered on a dead thread
so how do you guys run a low gph thro inline uvs so they do there job properly?
also will they eliminate hole in head in oscars??

You have a few options, 1) split a pumps output back to the tank, and part to the uv. 2) use a low flow pump. 3) use a canister, and restrict flow rate out.

A UV sterilizer in my experience will not "cure" a disease. It can prevent infections and clear infections out of the water but if a fish is already infected it will not cure it.

So if your Oscars have HITH already, I dont think a UV will cure it on its own.

I believe 1 watt per 10 gallons and 10 gph for each watt. Example you have 100 gallon tank use atleast 10 watt uv with 100 gph pump. Experts please tell me if I am wrong,

the HITH question was just a thought. i have never and hopefully will never get HITH in any of my Os.
thanks wyld thats what i was thinkin, i just hate to slow the flow of water out of a pump. i was as much as possible. i guess a smaller power head is what im goin for then
goodfellas, your corect i have read that many places

I personally would never restrict outflow of a pump. Nor would I get a smaller tank, but running a canister return with a Y joint and a ball valve can restrict flow to just the UV, while allowing a good portion of the water to by pass, however, this will make the UV less effective, as it won't be getting as much contact with all the water.
