Hello everyone. Long story short, im trying to buy a house and everything isnt going as planned so i am moving in with a family member on the 18th of November (this is when i need to be out of my apartment). I have a motoro ray, florida gar, and a silver arowana. I was planning on transferring the fish and tank on the same day. But decided to just get a bigger tank now instead of when i move into the house because the fish are outgrowing the tank and i dont know when i will be getting in the house now. So i plan on going over to my family members house this weekend and setup the new tank. How fast can i have this tank cycled safely to put these fish in?? can it be done by the 18th? if so is there anything i can buy to speed the process up? i was thinking of doing a good size water change and using the water i take out to put in the new tank. But still i will not have even half the water amount to fill the tank.

The used water will have very little bacteria in it... Your bacteria grows primarily in your filters and on the surface area of the tank. If you use your cycled filters on the new tank you shouldn't have much in the way of a mini cycle... Otherwise Seachem Stability works wonders.

Nov. 18 gives you 3 weeks...I feel like there is a solution to your problem, but Im a bit concerned about your Ray. I've never kept one, but have heard they are pretty sensitive. Is there a chance to purchase a second filter, and split the used media between the two tanks for at least a week? Perhaps more...

it can be done. i have another fluval 405 not being used. i can get that up and running on this tank now. But about the ray. i have THE hardest freshwater ray.

I've found rays to actually be pretty hardy, but they require an experienced hobbyist to know what to look for in case problems arise... So new tank, no used filter media, I would try Seachem Stability. I did a complete cycle in my 125 gallon with new everything with clown loaches (sensitive fish) in the tank with absolutely 0 problems... Tank was completely cycled in 8 days.

So set the tank up this weekend, throw sum cheap fish in and the stability? I guess im just worried, this is not my first time setting up a tank BUT it is the first time moving my ray

Feel free to exhaust all means available to you, but I would really recommend getting some established media in a filter and on the new tank. Dont know much about Stability (an 8 day cycle seems amazing to me) but I wouldn't put all my eggs (or fish) in one basket.
Good luck!

Matt
