Can anyone please help me, I have a 120g with an 11" motoro staying with my catfish and I am presuming the 2 got into a bit of a fight last week. Now my motoro has a bit of scratch along the edge of his disk and a cut on the middle of his disk, he stopped eating yesterday and I am afraid he is not too well. When I first saw the tears on his flesh (whitish fray) I added melafix and that did not seem to help too much. He is normally readily to eat shrimps that I add to the tank, but after yesterday the food sat at the bottom barely untouched.

Is there any medication that can help him heal his flesh? I did a water change yesterday after the feeding, hoping that would make things better, but I know my water is in top condition as the parameter is always in check, along with water temp. I've had this guy for well over 4 years and this is worrying me. Whenever he had a smaller cut, the melafix helped, would you guys suggest I do anything to help the situation??

If their is funges on the the wound use Binox from Jungle. If he does not have any funges on the wound use iodine free salt.Max of 3 gramms the liter (don't know the gallon ratio). You could rase the temp a bit to increse his/het apitite.
Regards
Frank

I agree with these guys raise the temp to about 85-86 and add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt for every 5 gallons of water. Also what kind of cat is it? You should think about getting him out of the tank. Hope all goes well!

i agree with the above post and if you add any medacine make sure there isnt any carbon in your filters and if there is remove it unitl your done using meds..then put it back in to remvoe them...wow im suprised after 4 years hes only 11" he/she needs a bigger tank asap

I agree with Frank, tho you probably don;t need binox.
first do several large water changes , around 50% each one, to get the melacrap out of there as it can be a real irritant.
then add salt, Koscher or rock salt ( pure NaCl) 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons, don;t drop the salt cristals directly onto the ray
it will take a few weeks to heal but should be OK as long as you look after the water
i knew i forgot somethin water changes....

a 4yr old motoro thats only 11inch

i would take the cat out now if it has happened once it will happen again what cat is it ?

Thanks all,

but to answer... he is 11", maybe 12" (I never really measured him, asides the time he swims along the tank wall and I know he is much... much larger than my outstretched hands)

Along with that, I have him housed with a Synodontis catfish, which have been tankmates for over 3 of the 4 years. The Synodontis is not bigger than he is and the motoro can alway whup his butt, except this time. Since I feed the tank only 3x a week, I left the responsiblity to my wife when I was out of town the other week. They must of been starving and fought.

The 120g he is in is suitable for him since the tank is 5' long and 18" deep, and its only the motoro and the Synodontis. I do water changes every 2 weeks...I definitely know this since by the 2nd weekend, alot of the water evaporates and the sump runs low and the pump is very LOUD!

I normally put in salt during every water change, Freshwater Aquarium Salt by API, not sure if that is pure NaCl...

I will try raising the temp, since the tank is in the basement, it probably got colder due to the A/C running. And I've never been much of a fan of heater....I have a 250g reef tank and heat is a big enemy. I only have a 300watt heater in the motoro tank, hopefully this fixes everything. and I will do a water change every other day this week, to filter out any melafix in the water. I really want him to regrow the part of the disk that looks like its been chewed off.

If there are any more suggestions, please let me know!!!

i would add another backup heater if your one and only ever goes out...
