Please help...injured stingray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What about the eating? If raising the temp does not make him hungary. should I be looking out for any signs, so far no physical signs (underdisk redness or death curl), just some white flesh on the wound and no cotton-like growth

Thanks all,

but to answer... he is 11", maybe 12" (I never really measured him, asides the time he swims along the tank wall and I know he is much... much larger than my outstretched hands)
If there are any more suggestions, please let me know!!!
that is still way to small after 4 years he should be to his/her adult size of 24" that tank is way to small he needs atleast a 3' wide tank for now.. just keep up the water changes

Do you mean 24" w/ tail or w/o tail? His disk is about 12" (my wife thinks 15") and his tail (from base to tip) is about 8"

I can post a pic later...

As for now, I noticed today he is much more alert, I knocked on the glass and he came up, so I fed him a shrimp and he at it willingly.

He seems okay now, as for the wounds, how long would that take to heal properly? Would it be scarred forever or would the color/disc shape come back? And how does it take to heal back to normal?

the size of his disc should be 24" from the right side to the left...a pic would be great...who knows mabye you dont got a motoro mabye its a smaller species of ray who knows.. cant w8 for pics

a female motoro of that age should be much bigger at 4yrs old

a male motoro would be smaller as they normaly max out at around 16-18inch disk

you dont say how wide your tank is only that its 5ft long 18inch deep width is the most improtant thing with a ray tank along with lenght

if you have a heater in the tank make sure it has a heater guard or it will do more damage than any syno cat (if its in the sump thats better)

keeping a syno with a ray is still a risk today torn flesh tommorow the ray could have one or no eyes

Thanks for the info, my motoro is a male and he is only about 12-14". I haven't broken out the ruler, but for the most part, since 2002 he's been a happy fish. Whether his growth is slow or stunt or maxed out, he is fed raw shrimp (size 21-25/26-30)...which we willingly eats every 2-3 days. I just didn't know females were bigger than males.

Anyways, the tank is 60"lx18"wx26"h. He doesn't have a problem with his living situations now, since he doesn't totally outstretch across the entire bottom. He can make full u-turns easily and has plenty of height to swim back and forth. I do want to get him a female friend and hopefully successfully breed some pups (BTW, what is appropriate size for a female to be in heat???)

Latest post on his condition, I put in some shrimp pellets and he went up and sift in the sand to search for food...good sign:thumbsup:
