KK aka Calico is a young male betta with a red body and a few missing scales and his tail and fins are white but have turned slightly yellow. He lives in my 20 Gallon with a sponge filter, gravel and 3 rocks. I am BEGGING anyone to help me!! PLEASE!:cry::cry::cry: He also has blue eyes and a big appetite. He is resting but also acting dead. Last time I had to shake the filter to get him to move to feed him.:cry::cry::cry: PLEASE HELP CALICO. I did some research and i think it is DROPSY. They sell meds for it. Good luck with you fish.

i thought you were talking about a king kong... I hope your fish is ok...

How long has the tank been set up? What is the temperature in the tank? Is it cycled? Test for ammonia. Is there any?

oscaroo, it could be dropsy but lets not jump to conclusions just yet. Bloating is most commonly caused by overfeeding, the feeding of flakes, and feeding freeze dried foods that have not been soaked before hand. It can also be caused by slow digestion brought on by cold water.

Make sure his water is 80F.
Make sure his water is clean, that means NO ammonia/nitrites/nitrates
If these needs are not met that could be the cause of the problem.

I say do a 25% water change and treat the tank with aquarium salt until we figure out exactly what's wrong.

EDIT: It sounds like swim bladder disorder brought on by bloating (constipation). Do the water change and aquarium salt like I said above, but also fast him for a week. No food at all. Then, give him a de-shelled defrosted pea. About the size of a grain of rice. He may or may not eat it at first. Keep trying until he does. This allows his body to properly digest the food left over and the pea gives him fiber to help push it all out.
