i have had him for about a week and he has been doing fine. today i get up and he is near the top of the tank wedged between the heater and glass. i moved the heater to see if he was ok and he is swimmin very sporadicly and it looks like his top fin is jsut starting to peel away! the ph and ammonia are great. as the tank is only 2 weeks old. any advice would be great i dont wanna losse this little guy:nilly:
 
no the top of thew heater is not hot. but hes swimming crazy and his top fin is just slowling dissapering
 
its one of the stealth heaters

what do you mean by "disapearing"? is it slowly just fading to a stump, or are long "sections" of it coming off?

we need more info. pics would also be great if you could.

give him a nice hidey hole so hes not going under the heater any more, and hope for the best. normally id advise you to bump up the temp, but not if hes sitting next to the heater. my RTC did this when young.

If the cat looks like it's peeling, Then that's normal.
 
sounds like an un-cycled tank. or bad parameters...
what size is the tank, what size is the fish, what are the exact parameters ammonia, nitrIte,and nitrAtes, and water change schedule.
 
it sounds like the cat is less then 3''. to fit between the heater and the glass. But yeah, more info is needed.
