Hello all! I am about to buy my first African tiger fish.. I have done a ton of research about it including most of my research on this awesome forum! The 3.0 ID ATF thread is incredibly helpful I learned a lot however I'm still not too confident my untrained eye was able to figure out what species these tiger fish are from my local fish store so I'm wondering if anybody out there could give their input and help me out.

So my local fish store has three ATFs in stock and they're all labeled as Goliaths. I took a bunch of pictures of them I'm going to post one picture of each and I was hoping if anybody give me any advice as to what species they think they are and also if they notice anything health wise. I know a picture can only tell so much and I do have couple other pictures I can post if needed.

Furthermore, they are asking $350 each. I've called around to many different stores here in Washington State (which is where im located) as well as any other store here in states here in the West Coast area can't seem to find any that have them. A lot of the stores claim there supplier does not have them anymore because they are seasonal caught. Is that true? Let me know if this $350 price is too steep for the fish pictured and if they are really only available certain time of the year. Also, let me know if anybody knows anyone selling any at the moment anywhere even if I its in another state.

Any input is very much appreciated thank you for your time!

Hi thank you for replying.. Just so I could learn more what gave it away so quickly for you to identify it as Goliath?
Goliath has a distinct shape especially the head. Also the adipose fun...

Oh okay I see.

Do you think the price is fair for them? Seems higher than a lot of prices I see online but online all says unavailable.. Not sure if these are seasonal window of like 2 months out of the Year type thing?

Do you know any reliable sources that have any for sale?

I’d say that is overpriced as well, but if it’s a regular lfs they usually charge more because they don’t get fish like that in much and there’s not a big demand either. Most people walking into those stores want the colorful stuff.

Yes it does seem over price/rip off lol as compared to some of the places online.. You're right about the colorful fish are the ones people want.

Since they're all wild caught do you guys know when the season is if it's just starting or ending? Also do you know anybody who is reliable that has some available? I'm wondering if right about now is the ending of the season and maybe that's why the prices are hiked up to 350 there at that lfs because I heard from a buddy he told me that a while ago they were 250 to 300 at the same place.

Wes of rare fish. Check the vendor section. He’d have the best prices I think.
