Please help me ID this wolf fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thought mine was too (very unscientifically via photos online), it's a hard fish to ID because the patterns change when the fish changes colors.

you can check for a couple things underneath his chin. i posted a hoplias ID thread not long ago in the section, there's a diagram there.

The guy who owns him said it is a hoplias lacerdae
It is possible, it does look like lacerdae.

according to the diagram, my fish is a common mala, at most, a var. may be...

Take notice to the fold of the jaw/gills underneath, and the number of holes/dimples underside. When the underside of the fish turns white, the holes are much easier to see.

but lacerdae isnt included in the diagram so dont have a basis for comparison. What about the above posted fish clues in that it's a lacerdae? Very curious to know whether mine is as well.

Thanks guys me I believe it is a hoplias lacerdae, because my friend has one very big from the same source (midle Orinocco). If u look at the shape of his head, colors and the back look like a lacerdae. The jaw in my opinion it is not something very important because lacerdae cames from many diferent places and are many diferent tipes....

yep lacerdae
