Thats odd though. Perhaps it's a type of fungal spore thing. I would water change. Hopefully we get a real educated reply soon!

I've never had this stuff but if that were in my tank I'd take the wood out, scrub it with a coarse brush (I use a flat version of what is basically a baby bottle brush) under warm water, then expose it to high temperatures (90°c or more) either by boiling or baking for at least an hour, then a spray with some high pressured water and plop it back in.

All of my wood (minus one bit that wouldn't fit in my oven) goes through this treatment before going into my tanks (the bit that I couldn't heat up was soaking in a tub in my bathroom for over 9 months) and so far, I haven't had an issue with my wood. :)

Hope this helps, good luck.

That is not hydra. It is a fungus growing on the wood. It is usually harmless and goes away in a couple of weeks.
Thank you for your help. How sure are you that it is a fungi....its been there about 2.5 weeks and spreading a little bit in the same area. Should i leave it or remove wood and scrape that area and soak in hot water
