I would say female too but its hard to tell. It looks stressed try to get a pic of it when its relaxed, defendiing or eating. The biggest sure sighn is a black blotch on the gill cover. It will be in the lower corner opposite the eye. I can't tell for sure if there is one there I'm on a phone and the pictures are small. But based on the dark looking area there I would say female. Once again I'm not 100 percent because the fish is stressed though.

Really? when i first gor him/her i thought so too. but lately i've been thinking that it looks more masculine, especially in these pics. but this is my first salvini so i don't really know. I thought that females were supposed to have more red on their bellies?

The red comes with age, size and a good diet. There are some males that develop more or just as much red as females. This is uncommon but it happens. Black spot on gill cover is the only way to tell the sexes apart for sure. A lot of people belive that a black spot or blotch on the dorsal is a sure sighn of a female too. I have found this to be untrue since my old pair both had this trate and reproduced several times.

Scratch that "only way". Venting will work to although I have never done this before.
