I was calculating with a safety at 3.8 which put me at .93", I was rounding up to 1" to be safe. With a safety of 2.5 I'm at .75". Problem is, I can't FIND 1" anywhere. I've called 15 suppliers and manufacturers in the area and the best I can find is .75". I'm still waiting on hearing back from a couple but I'm not getting my hopes up. So, looking at .75" will that really be enough? Bear in mind there will be 1" perimeter on all sides of the glass holding it in place, so really only 34" high of exposed glass.

Is this piece of glass a viewing window or is this for the whole tank?
Safer just going acrylic. Not to mention the weight factor of glass
Or i guess, maybe go with two pieces of glass to make one sheet
Just my input

I was looking to use a single piece of plate glass. It's a viewing window. I didn't want double paned glass because it's not as strong. I'm just curious if the 2.5 safety factor is enough. If a fish hits the glass at full force and it cracked, that would be pretty bad.

Since it's only really 34" exposed since there's a 1" perimeter supporting, safety factor can be increased to nearly 3 before going over the 19mm mark.

Also, if tempered glass is stronger than plate, and you went with the same thickness, wouldn't tempered be preferred as it would have a higher safety rating, in addition to not spewing huge sharp pieces of glass at you in the event of a break?
