Looks like HLLE, AKA hole in the head. Usually comes from stress due to too few water changes, and allowing metabolites to build up in filters too long without cleaning.
This causes ubiquitous common bacteria that would normally be benign, to become an opportunistic pathogen. Best defense is prevention with frequent partial water changes, and removal of gunk from filters. These methods can sometimes reverse symptoms.

Thanks, I've been trying to do this as much as I can, water changes usually happen twice a week and I clean the filter probably once a month.. The longest that ive not done a water change for is about 3 weeks, is that enough you reckon to start this?

What is your nitrate level? That is the simple way todetermines the wc schedule.

For now consider treating the tank with metronidazole, and wc as per instruction with the medicine.

I dont know, I really need a test kit to test my parameters, but with limited money there is always something else that i need more, like food or water conditioner. I will get my water checked at the fish shop tomorrow and look in to buying some test kits. As for the metronidazole, I believe that's sold in the US? I'm in England so I dont think I can get it.

Head and Lateral Line Erosion Disease (HLLD or HLLE) - Hole-in-the-Head Disease
Symptoms: Begins as small pits on the head and face, usually just above the eye. If untreated, these turn into large cavities and then the disease progresses along the lateral line.

Head and Lateral Line Disease is also known as Hole-in-the-Head Disease, Lateral Line Erosion (LLE), and Lateral Line Disease (LLD). It is attributed to a nutritional deficiency of one or more of: Vitamin C, Vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus. Though its cause is not definitively determined, it is thought to be caused by a poor diet or lack of variety, lack of partial water changes, or over filtration with chemical media such as activated carbon.

HLLE has been reversed by one or more of the following treatments:

◦Increase frequent water changes.
◦Add vitamins to frozen foods.
◦Add the addition of flake foods, as they are enriched with vitamins.
◦Add greens, either frozen or in leaf form, to the diet.
◦Decrease the amount of beef heart as it lacks many critical nutrients.
◦Remove activated carbon filtration.
(This disease is often confused with another disease called 'Hexamita', because both these diseases are often seen simultaneously in the same fish. Hexamita is a protozoan disease that attacks the lower intestine. Discus and other large cichlids, especially Oscars, are especially prone to Hexamita.)

Hi, thanks for all the information:)

Ive been trying to do more bigger, frequent water changes such as 50% every 3 days. I feed them hikaris colour food, the red pellets and thats all really, but i asked a guy at a fish shop if thats alright for a solitary diet and he said it is because its made for them fish and was designed to be their main diet for a long period of time. I have also tried adding some pond treatment which stops fungus and parasites etc, but that doesnt seem to be working either.

It's fair to say that the hith is slowly and steadily getting much worse and im getting worried about my fish, can anyone add anything to what im already doing to try and clear this up?
