Buying one part at a time for a high tech planted 55 gallon.

I know that root warmers are of use but likely not of benift when you do cost to benifit ratio.

So I had likely a dumb idea and please feel free to tell me so.

USE an RUGF put a thin layer of small diamiter gravel and then aqutic soil over that. The thought is that I can hook the canister output to the RUGF, I would think that this would push warm water up to the roots. I also thought that it would push the ferts up to the roots allowing maximum uptake.

I think it'll make a big soil cloud unless it's a very weak or low-pressure flow.

interesting concept. i "think" it may work. but given that your using soil, it may disrupt the substrate too much as KG mentioned. unless its very low flow. give it a test run in a practice tank to see how it works!

I can do a test run. What about using all gravel then? should be to heavy to blow around, I could even split the canist out put in two so only some of the flow goes to teh RUGF.

Cardona You're my high tech insperation. After my last planted tank disaster I was done with planted tanks.

LOL nice! im also slowly setting up another high tech tank. just need some spare cash for the regulator and i can get it going.

you can use gravel, but it all depends on what plants you want to use. gravel normally doesnt work with high maintenance plants as they need to pull nutrients from the soil as well. and a nice ground cover is out of the question with gravel
