hi all, just lately my male dovii[9 inch] has been eating hardly anything and im not happy as im trying to grow him out in his 6 ft.hes with 2 silver dollars.feederfish he just kills, and mealworms[his former fav food]just get left alone.please help, any suggestions would be highly appeciated.i absolutely love this fish and dont mind spending money on him,but on what food?maybe someone could tell me how often i should feed him to get him to grow.i have no ammonia in my water.krill dont even get taken,or garden worms.n e ideas.PLEASE..............hes still healthy and active.

What have you been feeding him, and how often?

Maybe wait a few days before trying again. Couple of water changes durning that time never hurts.

sorry I cant help much with the question but my texas cichlid has been doing the same thing... I havent seen him eat for over a month.

Maybe I can help. I have a Dovii, he is about 18". When he hit 8" or 9" I had the same problem. That's when they start getting really aggressive. All he wants to do is attack you or kill whatever is in his tank. As long as you are there, he can't consentrate on anything else. I have to put his food in when I leave the room. And then he eats it fine.
Try doing that. It should work.

its also common for fish to go on hunger strikes for a week or 2. i would just look the fish over real good and make sure he has no parisites or diseases. make sure ur water quality is good and keep doing water changes and feeding him and he should come around.

make sure it doesn't have stringy white poo, if it does, that's a sign of internal parasites.
