Hello I am in need of scale healing advise or to know if this fish is going to make it or not. I had taken a Jaguar out of a 300gallonish tank from a local fish store. There were about ten other fish in there all bigger than this Jaguar. About 6-7 inches long and has heavy scale damage. I dont see too many wounds that are in flesh but he is now in a 55gallon by himself. Been hiding since yesterday and don't want him to die. Advise would be much appreciated! cannot take a picture since it is still in hiding

Good news is these type of fish are tough and at that size should recover. First: I recommend keeping the temperature up on the higher side like 83 degrees. Second: Make sure the is proper aeration (bubbler) so there is enough oxygen. Third: Keeps the lights off! so many times when people get a new or sick fish the keep the lights on which can be very stressful in that situation! Fourth: Does with Melafix or another other anti-bacterial product for the aquarium as stated on the bottle. Finally, when you do water changes add Aquarium salt (NOT SUPERMARKET FOOD SALT) according to the directions, usually a table spoon per 5 gallons. Only add from what you take away from water changes, not when topping off the aquarium. Do all this and your Jag should be better in less then a week.

Awesome thank you very much. Does a 125gallon sponge filter work enough for the jag? My undergravel system is a bit strong so it might stress him out with high moving water? I heard cucumber is good for jags as well. Thanks for all this advise! New to the jag world. He was free but said he was a Jeffory Jag? Idk what he meant by it

Never heard of a Jeffory Jag. Mabye his name? If the sponge filter is rated for a 125 it will be fine. If not you may need a couple. In my opinion sponge filters are UNDERrated, they are very effective biological filters, but you may need two in 125 depending on sponge filter. Never heard of cucumber for jags but im sure some will eat it. Try to get him on a pellet based diet, that will be the best. Taking out the undergravel and putting in brand new sponge filters may cause more hard then good, he should be fine. So I would say leave your filtration the way it is and look into changing it when the Jag is healthier. Side note: Jag are one of the larger / more aggressive cichlids. He/She may be the only fish you can put in your 125. Just a heads up.

Figured it mean't nothing. I threw a extra 55g oer hang on there just to make sure. Yeah the had one there about a foot and a half which was the one beating it up. I want to try to breed them once he is healthy and bigger
