Hello everyone. I purchased my second bichir last night. It was in a bucket and I could only see it from the top. When I got home, I acclimatized her, and put in a 55 quarantine tank. She is a solid 11"s and fat -- and an active swimmer. I immediately noticed its nose. Is this from banging itself? Could it have happened in the bucket (25min drive)? Is this something else? According to the seller it is about 1 year old and was housed with other bichirs and aggressive cichlids. As mentioned before this is my second bichir and would love to hear from you guys. Thank you in advance for your help. :)

It looks like some rubbing. Good chance it started in the move and then more in the new tank. Almost every big fish I get has a bad nose for maybe a week or 2. Just keep an eye for any sign of diseases in the area and you should be fine. Add some salt and maybe raise th temp just a lil and keep up with the water changes. I'd be more concerned with why he is sucked to the filter in that last pic, that's a sign of a weak or dieing fish a lot of times.

Just rubbing from the glass happens to alot of bichirs when they are stressed they will swim up and down the glass rubbing there noses. Give it some time. my 16 inch congicus did this for a month and now is fine.

The bichir never rubbed against this tank (at least not for the first two hours as I sat in front of the tank).... you are very observant, yes when I took the last picture posted, it was very tired because a 6" Indo Dat would not leave her alone. The dat became very violent about 1 hour 45 mins in. I waited that long to see if the indo would eventually leave the bichir alone. This bichir is very docile and never snapped back at the indo. I then turned off the light thinking things would get better... nope the indo became more violent. I made the very hard decision to take the indo out and the indo is now in the hands of a very competent MFKer. The bichir is now in the tank by herself.

Attached is a short vid showing the aggression I speak of. The aggression was MUCH worse when I turned off the lights.
