So for the past few days my male red terror had developed some sort of disease or infection.... it started as he just had a few torn scales, could have been from tankmates, or from a piece of driftwood, anything like that. i thought no big deal, added some melafix, and figured they would heal up... it progressed violently over the past 3 days and is now huge, all his scales are falling off on the one side and its down to his flesh. i have posted some pictures, any help would be greatly appreciated, like I said, I've never seen anything like this before.

It began to look like this...

Then it now looks like this...

he also has never had stringy white feces until it progressed, hes always eaten normal and never had any health or parasite problems.

I've accepted that this fish may die, but I still need to know what it was and what caused it incase any of the fish that were in the tank with it may get it... He is in quarrantine now but only moved there yesterday.

Why is it recommended to use clove oil? That fish does not need it yet. Give it a chance. Since it is moved there, the first thing to do is apply iodine solution on the wound to minimize risk of secondary infection. Do daily water changes until the wounds heal. If secondary infections do develop, then you may have to dose Maracyn and Maracyn 2 combined. Hopefully though, you won't need those antibiotics if the fish recovers.

Thanks for the advice lupin, what do you think may have caused a wound like this? all of the other fish seem fine, except my female jag who has 1 upturned scale with slight red behind it....

A lot of fish have no resistance to temptation in nipping the wounds constantly until it becomes infected. Unless I am mistaken, your fish happened to have his wounds bitten off aside from being scraped on decorations.

I'm not so sure, it has a fuzzy kind of growth on it now that I can notice. Also, since I have quarrantined him yesterday, the sore has spread overtop of him and onto his other side.

That fast? This sounds like bacterial infection now. Do you have Maracyn and Maracyn 2?
