Hello all, I bought this very special Thai flowerhorn about 8 months ago, he has always been very healthy and active. He lives in a 75 gallon tank, with a magnum 350 with Bio-Wheel Pro kit filtration, and an Aqueon 300 watt shaterproof heater. The tank gets regular water changes and is maintained ~82 Degrees Fahrenheit, the fish eats primarily Hikari Cichlid Gold, fresh shrimp, and live trout worms. He has been very healthy and active for the last 8 months.

Last week, one of his eyes began to become enlarged. My first thought was that he had somehow contracted popeye, I did a Bifuron bath for him for about two hours in a hospital enclosure, then released him back in in to his tank. The next day his eye turned completely white and started to grow a fungus-like fuzz on it. I immediately moved him to a 20 gallon lon hospital tank, and have been treating him with Melafix and aquarium salt.

I am don't know what to do, he seems like he is getting worse! His nuchal hump has shrunk greatly, his colors have faded, and his poop is stringy, clear-whitish, and barely coming out. I need help please my brothers and sisters!

You could try pimafix that is antifungal by api. But you may need a stronger antifungal melafix and pimafix are better preventers than cures. You may want to check out api general cure in case its an internal parasite and maybe the eye is secondary infection. I would light dose any medications to not stress him further. Wish you the best luck hope he gets better soon.

Yes, I share many of your sentiments on this matter, I was thinking it might be Hex because of the feces. I will definitely look into the general cure. Do you hold a bias against any certain meds against another? I was thinking about possibly tetracycline also. Any further help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Dont really like one over the other api has just usually worked. They can also get internal bacterial infections alot of diseases and parasites can cause the poop. Did you test your water to make shure thats not the culprit?Stress usually makes these things take hold either not varied diet bad water or bullying. But.hexamita can cause dropsy like signs and bacterial infections of the skin so that just maybe it. General cure treats that im pretty shure its We kinda wide range treatment. spironucleus vortens could also be it it is believed to possibly cause HITH but that protozoan is common in problems in flowerhorns it says metronidazole is treatment. check the general cure first I think its also used on HITH so it may work.Like I said earlier I would only use maybe a little over half the recommended dosage since his is not his strongest. Hope this helps had to pull out my fish disease book on this one.

I would change out at least half the water and just add maybe half dosage of medication maybe a little aquarium salt turn temp down a little if he has a fungus high temp will make that worse. I would add medication, slowly. You will have to do alot of water changes cause water quality needs to stay high.

Was he in the bigger tank by himself if so I would think about putting him there for the treatment cause the water would stay much cleaner. That is only if you think he can handle being moved
