Hi All, well my question is my cousin has two oscars. There both less then 3 in. He placed them in a 12in long by 10in. wide and by 12 in. High. I think it's eieghter 5 - 10 gallons. I heard Oscars are one of the fastest growing fish in the world, I read they grow about every inch per a month with good food supply. He has them in a small tank, but if they stay in thier how big shall they grow?About five in,Right? I want to know this because he wants them to grow to a foot long then he will put them in a 180 gallon tank. I told him they aren't going to grow that large in a tiny tank. In other words how big will his oscars grow in that tank? I want to know this because then I could tell him and show your replies to his opinion. Then he will defintly trnsfer them, but he thinks Im just bluffing...

Thanks

Those Oscars do not belong in that tank for 5 minutes...Tell him to wait till he has a 180 to buy big fish....1 of 2 things will happen...They will die of ammonia toxicity...OR they will be stunted to death...IE, the fishes organs keep growing, and their bodies do not...VERY uncomfortable death....Thank you for talking sense into this guy...He NEEDS to read a thing or two, before keeping anything other than a minnow or a betta...

They eat alot and produce alot of waste, and because of this there will be high amount of ammonia really quick in that small tank. They will outgrow it very fast and shouldnt be in that tank to begin with. They will die shortly if they arent moved to something bigger.

They both said it! They'll end up dead!!
Oscars are waste producers! It's like a goldfish combines with a pleco and then double that! That's how bad they can get! and growth rate? I dun think they'll even last a few days now!

Thanks All for your opinions which I greatly appreciate it, now I have to get my cousin to read....for one.

Go find him, tell him to stand a far distance away from the tank, and if the fish keeps fainting in color "eg. a tiger oscar with brownish and fainted stripes" those are basically stress lines! They're not appreciating living in that crowded space, he's only stressing them to death! And see if they start laying on the very bottom!
Oscars react quickly when someone's near, they always think it's feeding time!

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone! But these are stuff I have learnt from my oscars!
