hi everyone. 4 days ago i had to remove one of my rtc from one of my tanks as he had bin beat up a little from my other rtc. he is 18" and in a 5x2x2 till he gets better and i get the chance to get the pond up and running. he seems happy but i can not get him to eat anything my water is fine and everything seems up to spec . its just its bin 4 days and im starting to worry can anyone help please as i have never known an rtc to have an eating problem. thanks

If he goes two weeks, start to worry. For now, let him rest and adjust. He'll get hungry when he gets bored.

I wouldn't worry just yet mine went a week one time after I moved him then it was right back to being a garbage disposel . So no worries he will come around

but if there was a problem what do you think i would or could be. i just want to be ready. and not start worrying and looking for answers in to weeks time

its bin over 2 weeks and he is still not eating. but when i looked to day he looks huge like he has bin eating all night but there is nothing he can eat.

I wonder if he had been harboring some parasitic worms in his gut, and the stress of all this has caused his immune system to not be as strong and allowed for a rapid increase of the parasites. Have you dewormed him before? Do you/have you fed live?

without eating for too long I too would suspect parasites, although with a fish that size, even with too weeks perhaps you should give it a little more time

if it is not parasites, it could have gotten hungry and eatten some rocks as they are known for doing that some times...

Very true.

I wonder if they do this for the same reasons birds will- to help grind up food. It could explain why he wouldn't eat too if he's got stuff that isn't digesting well in there or has an upset stomach. Also, worms could make him feel sick and eat the rocks. (All sorts of animals do this kind of stuff). I would definitely deworm him to make sure that's not a problem.
