Please help sex my Cuban. I have trouble with venting. I have read sometimes females have a spot in their dorsal which this one appears to have. I also think the shape and color pattern are more in line with a male. Please let me know what you think.
Proportions, vent, and fin length say female, though the coloration and hump on the head look more like a male. Do you have any larger male cichlids in the tank with it? If not, it might be assuming the dominant role, thus showing the kok and male coloration.
Thanks for the replies. I appreciate your thoughts. I got this fish along with 4 other Cubans in January or February of 2019. It was the biggest around 2 inches and paired up with another and spawned march. It is the bigger one in the pair. Maybe that will help. I loved the colors when they spawned.
Agree with the others, the head and body profile is macho, as are the general coloration patterns.
male in the photo above,

easy to see differences when they are side by side
