Hi all first off i have a fully cycled tank all water parameters are in check

ammonia 0
n03 10
n02 0
gh 10d
kh 10d
ph 7.6

water temp is 27.c

Ok i have added 2 dwarf gourami's to my setup along with my 5 glow light tetras which have been in there 2 weeks i didnt add the gourami's untill i knew the water had adjusted to the glow light tetra's. When i added the 2 gourami's one male one female i had a samll ammonia spike somthing like 0.005 so water changed 30% and added 5ml of stress zyme.

they have been in there around a week and the last 2 days the female has become less active and either sits just off the bottom or hangs near the op of the tank against the inlet of the filter.

the only visible signs of illness is rapid breathing no lumps no fungus scales are not sticking out no uclers or sores of any kind and no noticble change in colour.

This morning i noticed a long white stringy pooh coming from her almost like a thread of white cotton. I suspeted maybe constipation as they have only had tetra tropical flakes since i got them so went out and gopt some frozen brine shrimp today to see if that flushes her out.

Failing that does anyone know what else it could be so i can treat her if neccessary.

thanks for reading.

Oh and lastly all other fish are fine and going about tank life as normal.

Either fast the fish for a few days or start treating with levamisole hydrochloride. Won't rule out the possibility of internal parasites.

well i fed the brine shrimp yesterday and all the other fish loved it but she didnt take any nor is she eating any flake either so i think she will fast herself.

i'll go out to my lfs today see if i can get somthing.

Oh update today she is leanining slightly on her side do you think it could be swim bladder?

i will take a pic she is at the front of the tank.

Right i have now noticed a glowlight tetra swimming on it's side having trouble staying upright so im almost certain this is a swim bladder infection so need to to know the best course of medication available in the uk if anyone knows please.

i noticed yesterday that her fins are slightly erroded and she looks to have popeye so i got some myaxzin recomended by my lfs and started treating yesterday i just hope it works.

I don't know about the strains of DGs available in the UK, but IME, they are very fragile, healthwise. The massive breeding scale has left most lines genetically weak. I know many experienced anabantoid keepers who've not been able to keep them alive for more than 9 mos. or so. The longest I was able to keep one was about 7 mos. Water params were always bang on, too.

A shame, since they're quite lovely fish.

unfortunatly she died yesterday all other fish seem fine but i am going to continue the course of myaxin antibacterial just incase then put my carbon back in and do a water change.

Thanks for the help and advice.

My bet is internal parasites or an internal infection pressing on her swim bladder. Guarami aren't as susceptible as goldfish, but any "common" and captive bred fish have a risk of swim bladder problems. If it is the swim bladder fasting is the best cure. Also, never feed a fish flakes. Crisps or pellets are the only way to go
