I have a 3.d inch texas cichlid that is not moving hardly at all. He is very dark in color and obviously stressed. This morning he didnt come up for food and just stayed on the bottom. Tonight he is just siting at the top in a plant doing nothing. The other fish in tank are fine and the water parameters are fine. This is usually the most active fish in the tank. I can usually tell what the problem is but now i cannot. when i get a chance later tonight i am going to put him in a hospital tank and try to figure out what the promlem is. I will also add extra salt to the water. hopefully he gets better, but if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Baby texas (both cyanoguttatus and carpintis) are extremely picky as far as water quality goes. Make sure you use the same water in the hospital tank as he's in right now. Keep the temperature at around 84 and have tons of aeration. Try to keep him away from fast flow though by dividing the tank. Keep the filter and airstone on one side, texas on the other. Keep the light dim and watch for signs of more serious disease.

Also, lots of small water changes, daily if not twice daily, with a good strong dechlorinater, like Seachem PRIME.

All good advice ive had many problems with juvie texas one of the being that they should have veggie matter in there diet. good luck.

Keep that water pristine! When refilling the tank, only put the water on half speed, the added current will only add to it's stress...try feeding some garlic pellets or soak some earthworms in garlic. Helps clear out their system.

thanks for all the advice, his tnak mates are an 8 inch jack dempsey, 6 inch GT, and a 4 inch pink tailed chacleus. He is doing better now and starting to swim and eat more. i increased the temp and the salt, seems to have helped. I havent heard of the garlic before, Ill try that. I also feed them all pellets, cichlid flakes and krill. they dont get much live food BC the local fish shop closed and its the only place in about 30-45 minutes from here to get feeders, aside from earthworms from wall mart. theywater quality is good, i do roughly a 20% change twice a week! thanks for the advice!

i think i've read something like this. this might aply if you recently added this fish. new tank syndrome or something like that the fish in your tank are used to the harsh conditions they are in so when you add a new fish thinking its ok its a big change for them. check the amonia levles n such. make sure you vac or 20-40% water change weekly. hope he feels better
