hi my parents are holding up my 500 build for my silver but i might be able to build him a 237 5ft long 3ft wide by 26" tall would this last him longer than a 6x1.5x1.5? and how long will it last he is about 15" right now. any answers would be greatly appreciated as i am freaking out (i found out about this last night)

Go for a 6X2 X2 instead if 1.5

yes this is much better he will last adleast a half of a year to a year even mabey more. they are very flexable so when he gets about 2 foot and a half then time for a new tank. good luck!

Bigger is always better, do the best you can. IMO a 5' tank is to short a length for a 24" arowana, which your aro should be in just a few months.

He will be OK for a few years in a 3' wide tank. They can turn about 1/3 of their total body length but that does not mean you should.
He will be ok for ever, not just a couple if years, though, of course, the bigger the better, as says Brian.

I agree with Brian, the 3' width is wasted on a 5' long [short] tank. The extra space may make it feel a little more comfortable, but neither tank is really suited for long-term housing of a silver aro.

In what way are your parents "holding up" your 500g build? I'd suggest explaining [in a mature and logical way] to them that at 15" your silver is still growing fast and anything much less than 8' long and 30" wide is only going to be a short-term fix (and even 8x30 footprint won't last for ever!). Hopefully they respect that you are trying to do the right thing for the responsibility you have taken on. You might not be able to go as big as 500g, but a compromise in between what you have now and the 500g should buy you some more time. At the end of the day you still have to respect that it is their house, and if you can't no longer house it properly you may need to re-home the fish (as I did with my black aro when it out-grew my 150g when I was living at home). It may seem sad at the time, but use it as motivation to work yourself into a position where you can have that dream tank. I did, it only took 15 years...
