I noticed small red dots on my clown knife a few weeks ago. I did major water change and salted the tank. I live in Hawaii and for the most part, other than really early in the morning the tank is about 80 degrees so i opted not to use a heater in the tank.

I was watching my fish and thought the red dots were going away, but for the past few days (may have been up to a week) i noticed that my fish was not eating the forzen food. i thought that he was just being a picky fish, so i was planning to pick up some feeders.

This morning I found him floating on the top of the tank. I thought he was dead, but I poked him with the net and he started swimming around but he looked really messed up. After a few minutes he was floating at the top again. I dunno what wrong.

I was gonna stay home from work but decided not to, because it looked like he was in a lotta pain and too far gone to do anything.

My fish lives in his tank alone and is about 8 years old now...He did have a minor case of ich this past summer but I'm pretty sure I got rid of it by salting the tank.

Just wondering what might have happened? Or maybe he was just old. Is there anything that I can do for my fish if by some chance he is still kicking when I get home tonite.

Please help. I kinda just want to know what might be wrong with him. And if he dies I'm scared to move other fish into the tank.

:(

can you get a few pics for us to see? at 8 years old, he is approaching the end of his life i believe. what are your water parameters? (ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels?)

Yeah, get us some pics. Could be anything unless we can see it. Hopefully not flukes or hook worms.
