this all started a few weeks back when my clown fish had a white dust on him.. i had recently added a rabbitfish (he does not and continues not to have any sign of disease)
this morning i get up to see my butterflyfish floundering covered in white spots. i have him in my 8G hospital tank with a proper dosage of copper sulfate but i fear i will lose him before morning. i have a 60G fresh tank in my basement that i am going to convert into salt should i have a full blown outbreak. is there any hope that the velvet will dissapear in my display tank with a water change? my water quality is fine but if this continues, treating the fish will be a long agonizing process. im 17 and with my limited experience i have only dealt with disease one other time. any techniques or suggestions on how to stop this are welcome,

Thanks in advance

alright i have a small question about my quarintine system... it was a fresh water full of fish...i dumped them back where i caught them and salted it correctly... i waited for the filter to catchup (PH is normal right now) and i added my puffer because im treating my display with copper (the puffer is in a non copper system with my live rock and invertebrates) do you see any problems so far? or did i make a huge *** mistake?

That should be ok, the only issue I could see is the velvet getting transfered back into the system via the live rock from the QT, it mite be a good idea to leave the live rock in the QT for a few weeks to a month even after the copper has been removed from the DT so that it can hopefully go through the life cycle without being able to re-infect the fish. Also keep an eye on the parameters in the QT tank, as they could spike due to changes and what not.

Yes. One, you released fish.

Two...why are you treating a display with copper...I wouldnt do that.

Three...its not like an instant cycle thing when you add salt...but if the puffer is doing okay, then I guess we cant complain about any of this.

Minus the releasing fish part.

Ninja'd...so I will just change that to +1 kevin...the disease master.

I dont have any experience cause my fish never get sick. :D

Generally frowned upon yes... but I didn't comment on it because they were retured to there place of origin... so likely not that big a deal.

LOL I rarely get sick fish as well, but I've handled so many fish over the years that I've come across just about everything once, and I read a TON about salt aquaria, all aspects, so I pick things up lol.
