Hi guys, I'm new here and also to flowerhorns in general. I purchased this flowerhorn about a year ago, I currently have it alone as it killed anything else it was put with. It has cleared away the sand to just the bare bottom glass and there are small white egg looking things. Can anyone confirm? If so does this mean it is 100% a female and if I attempt to pair a male to it, it would fertilize the eggs? Thanks for any help in advance!

hahaha.....yes indeed that is a female.....those are all eggs but unfortunately without a male they will not get fertilized....white eggs mean dead eggs....let her guard them and in a day or two when she realizes they are all dead she will eat them.....If its a Big tank (no smaller then a 75 gallon) you could get a male Flowerhorn for her but that doesn't mean that they will breed together....If your tank is big enough I would put in a plastic divider and put the male in on the side with out the female, but make sure they can see each other and this will sometimes help them bond and breed.....let us know with updates

This is great advice!!! Or you can buy a big tank 125+ and add it and about 10 others all at the same time and it might cut down her aggression.

I keep over 54 amphilophus and have them divided between two tanks. Very,Very limited aggression. And i they still spawn constantly.

Guys, thank you all so much for the great advice! Yeah, I was thinking they coloration was odd being most of the pictures I had seen the eggs were brownish in color. I'm going to attempt to find a male for her, I currently have about 8 other flowerhorns but all of them are much smaller than she is. I would imagine for mating purposes I'd want to find a male the same size if not slightly larger? This flowerhorn has been one of the most aggressive fish I have owned, she is quite mean. I think when I do add the male I'll definatly have to use the divider for her to be a little calmer and get better adjusted. Does it remain true that the males do not have as big as a bump on the forehead? Thanks guys! I will continue to update, I'm going to be moving her into a larger tank hopefully this weekend.

if the male is too small the female will kill him
