hi, this question has bothered me for a long time, basically right now how the filtration works is, i have a pump at bottom of the tank (not in sump but in the actual tank) which will blow the wastes in to the sump before it even gets to the bottom, but now i am thinking about putting stingray and just thin layer of natural gravel at bottom, the pump does 3300L/hr which i've tried and has blown the gravel all the way to the sump, and if a stingray was in there it wouldn't settle down, so my question is, how would i clean my tank with out the pump at bottom of the fish tank? or it wouldn't bother the stingray at all if there was that much water flow? please help! :nilly::nilly::nilly:

if my bad english confuses you please ask what part you don't understand and i will be more then glad to explain it! thanks :)

It would probably help if you could post some pics of your present setup. I don't understand how your 'in the tank pump' blows the waste and the gravel to your sump.

here it is, as you see the pump is on the very left in side the tank

From the picture the tankappearsto be designed for a sump. The pump should be located in the sump feeding the tank. Water overflowing the tank will go into the sump creating a wonderous circle of filtration. I would setit up that way and siphon debis off the sand as needed with a python. The bigger question here is how water gets from the sump back into your tank with the water pump being in your tank? If you have figuredout a way to make water go uphill, I am sure we would all be very interested!

the pump or (power head) is only 3300L per hour, look closely in the sump i got a mag 18 in there.

my question HERE is not about how my tank flows, i want to know how to clean tank if gravel was introduced to the tank (not by siphoning), but most likely i won`t be putting gravels now, because stingray lives better with out it, for it might suck the gravel to its digestive system.

Thanks for posting the pic, it helps alot. I'm not familiar with rays but have heard they prefer fine sand or bare bottom.

You could always turn the pump/PH so the outlet is facing up, then attach a 90 fitting so it will blow sideways. This would keep the output above the substrate surface so it won't get blown around.

omg you are a genius!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much!! man how could i ever thought about that lol thanks man! wow i can't believe is such simple solution yet i never thought about it!:headbang2:headbang2
