im treating a sick fish in my 20 gal hospital tank for white stringy poop and loss of appetite my question is how much epsom salt per gal should i use, shuld i raise the temp, and how long should i keep this up for? thanks mfk for helping:cool-1:

Epsom salt will give the fish the poops in turn making them pass said parasites theorerically. Turn temp up to 85° and 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons. Change 30-50% of water every day for 3 days and add in more salt depending on water ammount taken out. Don't use too much though.

For magnesium sulphate (epsom salt) to be most effective in erradicating parasites it has to be used in the manner described in the link below.

In extreme cases (as in the fish not eating) you can use a pipette to get the solution down their throats.

When adding epsom salt to the tank water it simply acts as a mild laxative. It helps, but it will not clean the fish of internal parasites.
