To make a long story short (my son) I ended up with this guy in my chiclid tank awhile bank. I thought he was pretty drab looking, but over the past week or two. He's started to gain size and show some colour. Namely a kinda blue hue around his face area. Could someone help me figure out what he is please. Took awhile just to get these pics ... hope they help

I've noticed he's not the best of friends with my 2 Green Terrors, but he doesn't seem to mind my Yellow Lab at all. Thanks in advance.

Thanks you guys ... been doing some reading on him, curious down the road if the tank was big enough, could he be housed with a mature senegal bichir, or would he need his own tank?

I have no idea, but what kind of Nerite is that in picture #2?

The Nerite (had to look that up) are zebra snails.

Mature senegal will probably be fine, it's the small ones that get eaten.

They're are currently housed together in the same tank .... the bichir is about 4 1/2" long coming onto 5". I was planning on moving my chiclids and bichir out of the 30 gallon into my new 55 gallon, now that its established. After reading up on this guy, I've informed my wife the plants have to go (we were just starting so no big loss). Guess I'll have to dig out our old plastic plants, the tank is in the livingroom and my wife wants something that resembles plants. But looking for things to keep with my Bichir down the road once the basement gets developed. As anything larger than 55 gallons will be down there.

I picked up one of these guys last weekend and so far so good with plants. I have also been feeding a full leaf of romain lettuce each morning and even my sevs are ignoring the plants.
