My 18" African Lungfish is in pretty bad shape and I need help in making him better.
I moved his tank to paint a room the other day.
When I added water back to the tank it seemed to stir up some funk from the gravel/sand.
When I got home that night the tank didn't smell right so I added fresh water but forgot to turn the heater back on.
I found him the next day floating in the tank not looking good.
I went into emergency mode and got him out of the tank and put him in a 20 long with just a little water in it and he took a breath of air.
Now I have him in the 20 long and have been trying different things like different water temps and water levels but I'm not sure what to do, he's in about two inches of water and I just saw him take a breath.
Earlier today he was getting the mucus type film on him and didn't look good so I brought the water level back down to about an inch or two.
Ive had him for about 6 years and I would be bummed to lose him.
Any hep would be greatly appreciated.
I know Ive already done a few things wrong.

I would just keep the water as constant as you can, so stop changing everything. Keep the temp around 82 ish and keep the water level at around 1/4 inch above his head. Do a 50 percent water change everyday. Hope he gets better keep us updated

Thank you for the advice I will do just that.
I can clean out his usual tank and get him back in there, it's about a 70 with an 18 inch width.pics2 746.JPGpics2 744.JPGpics2 745.JPGI put him in the 20 when I went into emergency mode.
Thank you for the help I will keep this updated.

He's looking better :)
I have him back in his bigger tank in a few inches of water.
Last night before I went to bed he took a good breath and looked up at me as he did it.
His eyes are clear and this morning I just saw him move in a normal way.
Hopefully he keeps on this track and keeps moving and begins eating.
I will post pics later.
Thanks for the help.

He's still looking better just took a couple good breaths and moved again in a more normal fashion.
He is getting a white film on his skin that concerns me.
Should I add aquarium salt or maybe stress zyme.
I put a low level filter in there from an old turtle tank but the water level is not high enough for it to work.
Any ideas or help is appreciated.

Thank you for the help, your formula for recovery worked perfectly.
My lungfish Sigmund is back to his old self, he's always been extremely active with a ton of personality.
He's been eating algae discs like Scooby snacks and looking good.
He did lose half the length of his appendages in the trauma but was missing half of one when I first got him 6 years ago so Ive already seen how they grow back.
My six year old daughter and I love him and were stoked he pulled through and is looking good again.
Once again thanks for the help.
I will post pics when I get my camera straight
