So I got a bunch of fish from a moving neighbor.
Some iridescents, cichlids, and cory cats.
also a pleco with my new tank.

it's been hours since i added them into the new tank, and they're active.

but whenever i add food, they won't come up to feed. is the tank too tall? are they not noticing it?
i thought catfish, like my iridescent can smell food really well??

the past owners have been using floating pellets and tropical flakes.

i put floating freeze-fried bloodworms, hikari sinking, sinking shrimp pellets, algae disks, etc.
nothing...
do you think frozen bloodworms will do it?

oh and the sharks seem a little bumped up in the nose(while transporting/capturing) but could that be a possible reason they aren't eating? since i read that arowanas will stop eating if kept in too small of a tank that makes them run into things..
if so, when will they start eating... i don't want them to starve to death...

Ok calm down it's no big deal really at all. It will take about 2 weeks for certain fish to adjust and be comfortable eating. My new A.Diadema hasn't aten since I got him and he just took his first bloodworm cube today so he is starting to get situated. DO NOT KEEP FEEDING THEM!! It will cause a major ammonia spike from all the food spoiling and will most certainly kill your fish if levels get out of hand. Keep it set on a daily schedule of morining and night. Just a little bit at a time and if no one goes for it within 5 minutes remove the food and toss it. I know it's a waste but it will help your fish relize when to eat and trust you when you feed them. Make sure they see you with the food in your hand dumping it into the tank. This method I have found to be easiest when dealing with stressed fish as they will be acustomed to your hand as food. All fish smell food extremely well and know as soon as you drop it in. Cory cats are nocturnal feeders and should be fed frozen bloodworms and wafers at night ( one or the other). If there is still food on the floor of the tank when you turn your light on in the moring then cut back on feeding until you see no food left and then again gradually increase so you know the fish are being fed to the fullest. What kind of cichlids are we talking here? How big? I hope you ID sharks can get as big as your average man and weight up to 200 pounds+ at 5-6 feet long. What kind of pleco? How big? How many fish all together in the tank? Did you properly cycle the tank before adding fish? What are your current water parameters? What type of filtration are running? How many GPH as well as is there any cycled biological media in there? Whats the temperature set at? Did you properly drip acclimate your fish before releasing? What size tank???? Was this tank new or was it the previous owners? Sorry for all the questions but if you answer I can help you a great deal. :) Oh and ID sharks run into things because thats their nature. They are very skittish and dart around until they become MONSTERS!!

here i go....

were talking about kribensis. they don't have their dorsal fins up and are hiding in the tank corner begind the pleco. when i had them in the other tank over-night the big one was sideways in the cave.
one of them is 2.5" other 3"+

no i hope my hypothalmus won't be able to get that big or else i would have to ship him to Asia. 6'? you're talking about santiwongsei. don't worry if mine even gets close to 2', he's going in my neighbor's tropical pond.
sailfin pleco 6" not "sailing" and not eating the spinach i left in the tank last night,
100gallon tank; 2goldfish, 4guppys, 2iridescent sharks, 1pleco, 2cichlids, 2aldolfi corycats, and 1bluegill. all the fish except for the sharks, pleco, and goldfish are tiny.
yes the filter was established, i just added more bio media.
water parameters, i can not tell you. i just threw out my master tester.
filtration fluval 404, will add a emperor 400 in a month.
GPH i don't know...i have no idea. probably alot. yes so there are some established bio media in the baskets.
no i don't do drip acclimation, they're not $40 fish.lol
temperature is 78.5F will lower to high 77 to low 78.
tank suze 100gallon acylic.
it's new to me, but i bought it off a previous owner keeping african cichlids.

sorry icouldn't answer some of the questions...and probably the really important one

It's been like a few days since I got all my fish...
i posted a different thread but after I answered all the long questions, the guy never responded.

I know they have to get used to the surroundings a few days but I'm still worried they might die of starvation.
I just fed tropical flakes that the former owner fed to them. nothing.
i put some floating pellets and a few sank and the kribensis cichlid mouthed it but spat it out.

well some of the flakes sank and the fish swam right by it but no bite.

Anyways, what is the ONE food that almost ALL tropical fish would eat at anytime?? if there are any..
would live or frozen bloodworms do it?

kinda like using nightcrawlers when the fishing is slow.

If your fish aren't eating it could be an indication of another problem. Check your parems and post them results here.

i don't know about the parameters since i ran out of test kits but all my other fish that i had originally are eating

try frozenbloodworms or earthworms

the hikari frozen bloodworms float right?(like any other frozen BW)
would the sharks and cichlids come to the top to eat?
what time of the day would be best?

would the live BW work? they sink right? how much should I put in? I'm worried some won't get eaten and will live on in my tank...looking like leaches or something

Please, purchase a test kit and test for ammonia.

Judging by your re-cycle post, your tank is not cycled properly.
Judging by your overfeeding, you have ammonia in the water.
Judging by your fish behavior, they are suffering from ammonia in the water.
